01The metro, in parts
The metro is not one roofing environment, it is several, and the differences are big enough to change how a roof gets specified.
The valley floor around midtown is dense older stock with long low slope planes and deep eaves. Oro Valley climbs the bajada under the Catalinas, where the wind is stronger, the lots are steeper and there are a handful of genuine freeze nights a year that the valley does not get. Marana sits flat and completely exposed out along the corridor, with no tree break at all and blowing dust that sandblasts a west facing panel over time. Vail is higher and more open still, takes the full run of monsoon cells coming up from the southeast, and sees hail more often than the rest of the metro.
Those are not decorative details. Exposure decides panel gauge, fastener choice and how the edges get detailed.
02Cities and towns
Eight areas. One metro.
Tucson and the Pima County communities around it. Each one gets a different wind load, a different dust load and a different detailing answer.
Oro Valley
Up the bajada under the west face of the Catalinas. Steep lots, complex roof geometry, long unbroken panel runs, active HOAs with rules about colour, and stronger wind than the valley floor.
Marana
Flat, open and completely exposed along the corridor. Newer subdivision stock at Dove Mountain and Gladden Farms alongside working agricultural buildings. Wind driven rain and blowing dust with nothing to break them.
Vail
Out toward the Rincons on larger lots and acreage, with shops and outbuildings as often as houses. Full monsoon exposure from the southeast and more hail than the rest of the metro.
Sahuarita
South along the Santa Cruz through the pecan groves. Newer tract stock on open ground with the same full sun exposure as Marana.

Low slope single storey stock and a lot of it. Coating and restoration work comes up here more than anywhere else in the metro, and so does the honest conversation about whether it is worth it.

Southeast past Vail on open desert. Newer builds and acreage, wide exposure and the same storm track that comes over Vail.
